5. Comparison between the locally manufactured
Fingerscan and the imported one.
As
a general rule, the Purchase Department should buy the locally
manufactured Fingerscan. The main reason being the after sales services
and the availability of the spare parts. The general complaint from the
dealer of the imported product is that one has to wait for the servicing
team to come and look at the problems and this may take 4-5 days. In
case the unit can not be repaired at the site, and has to be send to the
manufacturer for repairing ,these sometime takes minimum one week and
can take up to a month or 45 days depending on the complexity of the
fault in the system.
Another
major problem the importer has to encounter is that they have a target
set by the manufacturer to meet and if this is not achieved in the year
due to whatever the reasons are, it is likely that the manufacturer will
start looking for a new dealer while the dealer will also start looking
at a new product to replace. In this case, it is very unlikely that the
dealer will maintain an inventory of the spare parts. The end result is
the problem for the buyers using the system as ultimately they can not
